The Devil and Tom Walker

                                   The Devil and Tom Walker

I can infer that tom walker is a greedy person. The author indirectly tells us that he and his wife even conspire to cheat each other. He is miser, which means he rarely spends any money even when he should. He does not give anything to anyone and that includes his wife. The author indirectly tells us how he is taking people’s money. Doing them wrong but carrying with him a bible at all time because he is scare of what the black man can do to him.
I can infer that toms wife is miserable as tom walker but with a temper. The author clearly directly told us she is a tall termagant, fierce of temper. She regularly verbally abused tom and the town people even suspected she even physically abused him as well. She even asked tom to give his soul to the black man so she could become wealthy for life. But at the end she got what she was looking for. Eventually nobody knows what happened to her.
I can infer that this black man is evil. The author directly tells us he is the devil. He has a dirty, soot covered face and carries an axle. Tom’s wife probably attempted to deal with the black man and things did not come out the way she expected so the only thing left from her was her apron. The black man was seen carrying a bundle tied in an apron. At the end the black man also got tom just like the author tells us in the story.

The moral or lesson learned from this story is clear, corruption leads us to the wrong path. You can’t be greedy in this world. People need to learn how to share with other. Don’t ever take the easy way out because at the end you won’t end up good. You will end up like tom and his wife. Don’t be hypocrite like tom walker attending church but still collecting mortgages.
