My English teacher assigned us to
write an essay giving our opinion and how we feel about the dress code in
MEPHS. I have mixed feelings about this policy. I dislike it because I don’t have
time to be doing laundry so often. But when I look at it in the bright side it
saves me time in the morning because I already know what I am going to be
wearing to school. My third and final decision is I agree with the policy
because it’s a way of showing discipline and a way preparing the young teens to
real life when it comes to wearing uniforms for work.
I think having to wash clothes so
often is using time I really don’t have. For me a single mother of 2, working 6
days a week, full time student is really complicated to do laundry 2 times a
week because I don’t have enough khaki pants to wear the entire week. Buying khakis
is not an option for me because I don’t have time and not financially stable to
buy pants I am not going to wear so often after school is over. I consider
myself as a colorful person. I don’t like plain color things, at least not the
colors they have chosen to for the students. The only color I agree on is black
because is one of my favorite colors. Maybe if they could let dress down days Mondays
and Fridays is would be a lot easier for me to keep up with it, without having
to stress about the laundry.
Looking
at this policy in a positive way I like it because it saves me time in the
morning. I don’t have to be wondering what am I going to wear to school or if
it’s appropriate or not. I usually wake up at 4:30 to be able to get everything
ready, leaving my ladies ready for school and be able to arrive to school on
time. If we did not have this policy at school I think I would have to wake up
30 minutes earlier which is not cool because I love to sleep. I need all my
sleep to be able to function well and even be in a good mood. I always like to
be on time, I think been on time is a way of showing responsibility.
The
very last reason I like the dress code at school is because to me is a way of
showing discipline. This also helps young teens get them ready for real life;
most of the jobs out there require a uniform. If you are already use to wearing
a uniform and be able to keep up with it then this would be nothing new. My first
year at this school all this sounded really stupid to me but now that I have matured
enough to understand it makes a lot of sense. If you go to a base school you
get to see all kinds of teens, all kinds of clothing can’t even identify who
are really the students attending school. In the other hand if you come to
MEPHS and you see someone not in the dress code you know something is going on.
In conclusion I have mixed feelings
about the school policy. I dislike it because I don’t have time to be washing
clothes so often and I’m not willing to go buy new clothes that all look the
same. Seen this policy in the bright way is saves me time in the morning and
helps me be on time to school. I also like it because is showing the young
folks responsibility and discipline. To me the last reason is important because
discipline and responsibility is one of the main keys you need in life to be successful.
This policy has so many negative but also a lot of positives to it.
